Good morning, faithful readers! Thanks for bearing with me through a few uneventful days. I promised some updates, and alas, I have not completed them. But I have an excuse – I’ve been busy working, yes, over the weekend. I finally have a couple days off. I only have one weekend left at this job, and then I’m transitioning into my dietetic internship! My excitement is so great I can barely contain it, but I think the people around me are starting to get tired of hearing about me starting my internship.
I resume posting with a delicious breakfast of the most *amazing* toast with blackberry preserves and yogurt.

You can see I already drank half my coffee, because it’s STREET CLEANING day in Cambridge, District B. To avoid getting towed (always a smart tactic!), I had to move my car from the EVEN side of the street to the ODD side of the street. Of course, most people did this when they got home from work last night. But if you’re like me, and you leave it off to the morning, you have fat chances of finding a spot. So I simply took my coffee down to the street this morning and sat on the steps until one of my neighbors freed up a spot. Only took ~10 minutes, and it’s a nice morning, anyhow.
For the toast, I used The Biscuit’s multigrain bread. I just can’t get over this bread. Even out of the freezer, it is amazing. I am still working on the original loaf, which I sliced and then wrapped in Glad Freezer Press’n Seal (and put in a freezer bag as well). The crust was crispy and thick, an enjoyment unto itself that led way to a chewy, hearty interior. Close up:

I spread the bread with cinnamon butter and blackberry preserves. The cinnamon butter comes from the cafe at work! And it’s darn good. I reckon they use about 50/50 butter to cinnamon ratio, and as a result, it bursts with flavor.

The blackberry preserves were Bonne Maman, product of France. Oh, the French! I am so saddened by yesterday’s news. Terribly sad. If any of those on board flight 447 had ever tasted this product, I know they experienced enjoyment in their lives.

For the yogurt, I used Wallaby’s plain nonfat – which is surprisingly creamy and smooth, both in flavor and texture. If you can’t stomach plain yogurt, here’s a baby step you can take that will actually move you in the right direction flavor-wise too! Simply add a spoonful of your own fruit preserves. Now, yes, the Bonne Maman product is made wtih sugar, so carlorie wise I probably ended up about the same as if I’d bought a fruited yogurt. But I am positive that the preserves I added were of higher quality that that which would have been added by most yogurt manufacturers. And, if you hang tight, eventually I’ll share my recipe for a healthy and quick homemade fruit “preserves.”

Prior to eating, I swept this “stuff” off the deck. Ick!

Aside from the Cambridge truck announcing the street cleaning (“STREET CLEANING – NO PARKING ON THE EVEN-NUMBERED SIDE, YOU WILL BE TAGGED AND TOWED”) as it drove up and down the neighborhood streets (you really can’t fault them for this courtesy, even if it stirs the sleepy Cambridgites), it was a pleasant morning.

Kristin, my roommate, made coffee this morning and left a little in the pot. Hot coffee ready for me, yay! It was so nice not to have to make coffee this morning. So nice, in fact, that for my second cup, I decided to use this:

This is Starbucks’ new instant coffee, and it’s surprisingly good! I received this in the mail as a sample, and I’d been saving it for a special time – which happens to be today! Today is a special day. Let’s treat it so.
